Google Static Maps API version 2

Google has released a major upgrade of its Static Maps API to version 2, and the previous version 1 is deprecated.

New Features:

• Locations can now be specified as addresses, previously latitude/longitude coordinates must be used
• Paths can be specified as encoded polylines
• Paths can be filled and rendered as polygons
• Colors can now be specified as any 24-bit or 32-bit color

Thailand's on-line gazetteer at the Royal Institute

New on-line gazetteer at the Royal Institute is open. You can search Thailand’s information based on any geographic name using this service. Here are some links to try:

What will semantic web technology benefit us ?

One of the many benefits of semantic web technology is on the capability of the search engines, they will response with better results. Their users will spend less time searching, but getting more relevant results.

• WEB 1.0 (browsers) – Users find data (some of us are still in this era)
  
• WEB 2.0 (social networks) – Users find each other (we are here !)
  
• WEB 3.0 (semantic web) – Data find each other (may be next year, I guess)
  

In the future WEB 4.0 - 10.0 may come.

เมื่อ Popfly ของไมโครซอฟต์ประกาศเลิกกิจการ ตามด้วย Google Mashup Editor ขึ้นป้ายว่า "No longer available" ทำให้ไม่เหลือตัวเลือกอื่นอีกแล้วนอกจาก ยาฮู-ไพพส์ ซึ่งยังมีทีท่าแข็งแกร่งไม่โรยราง่ายๆ เมื่อวานนี้พอมีเวลาจึงลองใช้บริการ Pipes ของยาฮูเพื่อทำ mashup content ง่ายๆ สิ่งที่ทำขึ้นมีลักษณะเป็น Yahoo Maps Mashup ผู้ทำสามารถเผยแพร่ให้ผู้อื่นเข้าใช้งานได้ ที่น่าสนใจมากคือสามารถทำเป็น widget เอาไปแทรกไว้ใน Blog หรือ website ต่างๆ ได้สะดวก BBC news on Yahoo Maps ที่อยู่ทางซ้ายมือของบล็อกนี้เป็นผลงานชิ้นแรกที่ทำเสร็จภายในไม่กี่นาที ข้อความสั้นๆ เป็นภาษาอังกฤษที่อธิบายว่า Pipes คืออะไร อยู่นี่ครับ:

Popfly เป็นบริการของไมโครซอฟต์ ใช้สร้างเว็บแอพลิเคชันประเภทที่เป็น mashup service ได้ชื่อว่าเป็นนวัตกรรมสำคัญของปี 2007 แต่มาปีนี้ในเดือนสิงหาคมจำต้องปิดกิจการลงเสียแล้ว คงเป็นผลกระทบจากสภาพเศรษฐกิจของโลก ของอเมริกา และของไมโครซอฟต์ เสียดาย... ยังไม่ได้ลองใช้เลย ว่าจะลองทำแม็ชอัพ Facebook+Google maps+etc.+etc. สักหน่อย
